Velvet Taco at Optimist Hall

Happy Foodie Friday!! This week we check out Velvet Taco at Optimist Hall in Charlotte, NC. Optimist Hall is a food hall with a vast selection of eateries from Sushi, Ramen, Tacos, Coffee, Dumplings, to Organic dishes, Raw juices and Crafted beverages. This Hall is a haven for great eats, entertainment and modern atmosphere to be enjoyed by all.

The building also has a brewery and a full restaurant on the main floor. The layout is spacious with options to large sections to eat indoors or outside. Now let me tell you when I saw VELVET TACOS in here, I almost lost my mind. The first time I experienced tacos from this eatery was back in 2017 in Houston, Texas visiting my best friend. I literally ate there twice in 24 hours the tacos are just that good. Velvet tacos are known for the most unique combination of tacos from Fish n Chips, Nashville hot Tofu, and Kobe Bacon burger to name a few. The imagination is unstoppable here.

Let’s get into the eats .. I had three different tacos the Grilled Salmon Taco, Beer Battered Cauliflower Taco, and the Nashville Hot Tofu Taco. The first two tacos I mentioned are both new to the menu. The Grilled Salmon Taco comes in a lettuce wrap which was refreshing, the salmon was thick with texture. The taco was complemented with corn, citrus lime and Napa Claw that supplied the spicy kick.

The Beer Battered Cauliflower Taco- if the name alone didn’t sell me on it, I would be lying. This is not spicy but the amount of avocado corn pico made the taco for me. I didn’t taste any beer in the cauliflower but I enjoyed this taco. Lately cauliflower has been the option of choice here in Charlotte.

Last but not least the Nashville Hot Tofu, listen if you haven’t tried Tofu yet, please give it a try! This was my favorite taco of the three, this came with crispy tofu, pickles, napa slaw and ranch crema. This was hot as mentioned in the name, the spice did linger a bit.. you’ve been warned. The Jarriots grapefruit soda is carbonated you might burp a few times non the less grapefruit flavor is strong and not overbearing.
