Smōk-haús

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

Happy Foodie Friday!! This week we’re heading to Smōk-Haüs in Garden City, NY. The American BBQ restaurant is a mix of classic yet redesigned barbecue dishes with a twist of unique sandwiches and smoked tacos. The restaurant is in a modern yet peaceful you can even eat outside.

Upon entering the staff greeted me immediately with a warm welcome which was delightful. The take out/ pickup area is available once you enter the space, Smõk-haüs also provides deliveries. The bar/dining area is rustic yet modern appeal with bottle lights against the large windows, steel panels for the ceiling and wooden tables with steel chairs.

I had an idea of what I’ll be eating prior to coming but still took a second look, because the tacos and sandwich selection had me at hello. For a starter I had a BEER!! I’m not the biggest beer person but love apple cider so I decided to give it a shot. The Magners Apple Cider Beer is good. Smooth yet not too heavy which sat well with me.

For the appetizer I had the Firecracker Shrimp…this is a serious hot one! If you’re not ready for the heat take this as warning. The battered shrimp is coated with their mango habanero sauce!!! It was crispy and mango habanero was spicy and sweet with the Alabama white dipping sauce cooled the spicy sensation.

For the entrée I had the A Po’ Boy from the signature sandwiches menu. The Po Boy is the sandwich of the South, if you’ve been to New Orleans, you definitely have to try one. This sandwich can be made with seafood or beef with lettuce, French mayo and mustard sauce all on a roll. Yet this combination can be adjusted to your liking.

The A Po’ Boy a good taste of NOLA, I had it with battered shrimp instead the battered cod. OMG it was finger liking good… the crispiness of the sandwich with the shrimp and the pickle chips was so damn good.

I didn’t mention that Smōk-haús version had pickle chips that added sweet and sour flavor. I should’ve taken one to go but Hey, I can always go back next time.

For dessert, yes… I just said dessert for the first time in years. I had the rice pudding. I know this had dairy in it but I couldn’t help myself but to try it. The delightful dish had cinnamon on top and was thick, creamy and tasteful to the point it wasn’t too sweet to give you a sugar rush but just enough to put a smile on your face.

The staff really made you feel like family as they were friendly gave insight to every dish.

Check out Smõk-haüs.
