Happy Foodie Friday! This week we’re in Brooklyn, NY to Aunts Et Uncles. Located in the heart of Little Caribbean on Nostrand Ave.
The Black Owned vegan restaurant is modern yet serene with greenery at every corner. The teal, pink, and gold furniture coordinate seamlessly against the wood panel tables. Personal photos, art work, books and even merch align the space with character.
.
Aunts eat Uncles is a vegan gem, if you didn’t think you would like vegan food this eatery will change your mind. This eatery provides a diverse selection of dishes from French Toast, Fruit of Heirloom Pasta to Sweet Potato Oatmeal Porridge the options are endless. The option to eat outside is available in the front.
.
Let’s get into the eats shall we….! The drink of choice was the Grass Roots which is a smooth mix of Gin, Ginger Cucumber, and Prosecco. This drink is refreshing with a zest of ginger along with the cucumber was just perfection. Now that I know Gin and Prosecco mixes so well I’ll be doing it more often. For the appetizer I had the Tivoli Taco..Oh my goodness… this was so good. At first, I was unsure I would be satisfied as you only get one taco but don’t let the size fool you. The Tivoli Taco is seasoned Beyond Ground Meat, home-made Pico De Gallo, Arugula, Cilantro, Spicy Mayo all on an oversized flour tortilla.
This taco is spicy yet soothingly delicious from the seasoned beyond meat the tomatoes with the lettuce are fresh yet light. This taco is huge and will fill you up. The spicy mayo provides the addition kick of spicy yet cooling sensation.
For the main dish I had the Salt Fish and Bake.. not what you maybe think of by the name as it’s a vegan version of the popular Caribbean dish. Made with heart of palm which is a vegetable harvest from the inner core and growing bud of certain palm trees. The way this meal tasted I need to have this weekly.
Oh lawd .. I need to know who make the seasoning for the heart of palm ASAP! From the softness of the bake to the richness of the heart of palm is impeccable!! With every bite it literally melts in your mouth with the taste of the Caribbean. From the kick of spice in the palm to the smooth flaky bake, tomatoes and scallions are refreshing. I recommend also trying the Fruit of Heirloom Pasta and the Mofongo when you go. Check out @auntsetuncles
